2011 TEB BNP PARIBAS WTA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2011 edition of WTA year-end championship is quite interesting as draw is pretty wide open. Even though it is composed of four Grand Slam title holders, namely French Open Champion Li Na, Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova, US Open Champion Samantha Stosur and three-time Grand Slam titlist Maria Sharapova, every woman in the top 8 has a shot for the coveted title. With the absence of WTA dominating figure, the Williams sisters and defending champion Kim Clijsters, it is interesting too see who will emerge victorious and how fierce the competition will be with the No.1 ranking on the line.

2011 TEB BNP Paribas WTA Champion
After her breakthrough and scintillating display for her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, new world No.2 Kvitova shown a lackluster performance which raised a question that her win is such a lucky strike. However, as the season ends, Kvitova proved that her first Wimbledon title has no fluke.

In that regard, in her first trip at the season finale staged at Istanbul, Turkey, Kvitova wiped out every opponent that gave hurdle to her maiden year-end championship title. To note, she was given a little challenge by her contemporaries in the round robin until she met Stosur in the semifinals and then by her final opponent new world No.4 Victoria Azarenka.

Azarenka, who never past the round robin stage in her past trips, made a decent effort and a heck of a fight the YEC title is not that easy to clinch. After losing the first set, she regrouped in the second set. She poised to make a comeback but still fell short and eventually lost 5-7|6-4|3-6.

For both first timers playing for the championship at the season finale, they are giving it all and everyone deserve to hoist the trophy. But at the end of the day, only will emerge as the winner and that is the newly crowned world No.2 Kvitova.

With her win, the no.1 ranking is now within her reach. And come January for 2012 Australian Open, it is exciting to see how the current world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki will respond to defend her position. As we about to see, the new dominating figure of women's tennis in the name of Kvitova.

2011 BARCLAYS ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS

Roger Federer
Roger Federer
2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Champion
Fresh from winning his first ATP Masters 1000 Paris in nine tries, his 18th ATP Masters 1000 title, No.4 seed Roger Federer is the man on a mission coming into London for 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. With 12-match winning streak on hand, Federer is seemed to be the hottest player in the season ender as he is the defending champion and with the No.3 ranking on the line.

This year the ATP World Tour Finals will be more interesting as the Roger-Rafa rivalry will be ignited once again as they are drawn to be in the same group with No.6 seed Jo-Wilfred Tsonga (Federer's conqueror for eight times this year) and the debut of No.1 American and No.8 seed Mardy Fish.

Meanwhile, Group A is led by the hottest player of 2011, world No.1 and top seed Novak Djokovic, No.3 seed Andy Murray, No.5 seed David Ferrer, and No.7 seed Tomas Berdych. Djokovic, whose post-US Open campaign has been on the slide will try to revive the form that gave him three Grand Slam titles and five ATP Masters 1000 titles including a combined 10-1 win-loss record over Nadal and Federer.

But as hot as Federer is, no one can stop him from defending his title where defeated Nadal in 2010 edition. This time for their 26th meeting, Federer dismantled Nadal in one of the most lopsided match they ever played. Spraying winners over the court, leaving Nadal unanswered to every shots Federer strikes.

As for Group A, Murray withdrawn from the tournament giving Federer a huge chance of reclaiming and finishing the year as world No.3. Djokovic's performances has not been good too with Ferrer and Berdych who came out on top and for Group B, it's Federer and Tsonga.

In the end, it's Tsonga who will wrestle the title from Federer, their eighth meeting of the year. Federer, who is playing in his 100th final of his career will try to win his 70th title of his career and recapture the No.3 ranking.

As expected, it is indeed an entertaining match. After Federer almost sweep the first set, Tsonga is looking for 2011 Wimbledon repeat. But Federer will not let that happen again. After failing to close the match in the second set tiebreak, Federer race through 6-3|6-7(6-8)|6-3 and captured his 70th title, his 6th ATP World Tour Championships, which put him ahead of Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras, both with five year-end championships title. With this win Federer will end the year riding with 17-match winning streak and a No.3 world ranking.

The season has not been so good for Federer by not claiming one of the four Grand Slam title, but he ended it with flying colors. Feeling the spark of hunger for winning once again, Federer will surely be a tough contender for majors and ready to relive the moments when he is winning title after title in 2012.
