The 2012 WTA Championships at Istanbul had been concluded, but as everybody expected No.3 seed Serena Williams came out on top at the expense of No.2 seed Maria Sharapova. Though she haven't ended the year ranked No.1 player of this season, but she clinched this year's huge and most coveted title, namely, the Wimbledon, the US Open, the Gold Medal at the Olympics, and most recently, the 2012 WTA Championships. Did I predicted it right? My pick for 2012 TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships Champion.

Since her sole first-round exit of her career in Grand Slam tournaments at this year's French Open, losing to Virginie Razzano, Williams has gone 31-1 with her sole defeat at the hands of Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals of Cincinnati. Williams finished her 2012 season with 58-4 win-loss record, winning her third WTA Championships and the oldest player to do so at age 31.

Even though Victoria Azarenka crowned the No.1 ranked player, performance-wise, it is Williams who showcase her best and unfortunately for her contemporaries, no one has even comes close. In fact, through the conclusion of the 2012 TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships, Williams claimed the title undefeated and hasn't drop a set throughout the tournament. Only No.8 seed Li Na has pushed Williams to tiebreak in the first set of their round robin match, but still she ended up losing it.

No.3 seed Williams performances at the WTA Championships are as follows: vs. No.5 Kerber 6-4|6-1; vs. No.8 Li 7-6(7-2)|6-3; vs. No.1 Azarenka 6-4|6-4; vs. No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2|6-1 in the semifinals; and vs. No.2 Sharapova 6-4|6-3 in the final.

The battle between Williams and Sharapova is the repeat of their 2004 WTA Championships where Sharapova emerged victorious. Since then, Williams has dominated Sharapova and the WTA Championships final was no exception. In fact, Sharapova hasn't comes close. With their recent battle at the Olympics, Williams thrashed the Russian representative for the Gold Medal match surrendering just one game.

At age 31, Williams continues to dominate the field, thus her fellow women's tennis in serious trouble. As the 2012 WTA season brings to a close, Williams has been a result-oriented player and that makes her the real No.1 player. Can somebody stop Williams? It's highly unlikely.
