Surprise! Surprise! Did you see it coming? Of course, no. I guess the bets were on the No.1 seed Novak Djokovic and No.2 seed Roger Federer. But who would have thought that 2014 US Open final is set between two first-timers and surprise finalists? Yes, the title bout is a battle between No.10 seed Kei Nishikori and No.14 seed Marin Cilic. It has been a dream run for both of them and now they are starting to believe that they win a Grand Slam title. But only one will be crowned as champion. Who will it be?

It came as a surprise to anyone as everyone is expected that the top two seeds will advance to the championship. Instead, No.10 seed Nishikori stunned No.1 seed Djokovic 6-4|1-6|7-6(7-4)|6-3, to become the first man in Japan and in Asia to reach a Grand Slam final and possibly the first man in Asia to win a Grand Slam title. Nishikori rewrites the history books.

No.2 seed Federer is bidding to win his 18th Grand Slam title but it was denied by No.14 seed Cilic 6-3|6-4|6-4. Cilic has been serving effectively and his baseline play was too good for Federer to handle. In fact, Federer found no answers to Cilic's brilliant display of his tennis. Federer, left to wonder but hope he could have another chance to contest for another Grand Slam title. But this time it was put on hold.

No.10 seed Nishikori has tried everything to take down Djokovic, something what Andy Murray has never done. Now, Nishikori is breaking many records that are waiting to be broken. Hard work and constant improvements, that what Nishikori has showed us under the guidance of former French Open Champion Michael Chang. But does Nishikori has plent of energy left in the tank, given that his last three matches went distance? Certainly, the journey of David continues as he take down every Goliath that block his way. Now, Nishikori is within one last giant and one last fight for the coveted and long-awaited Grand Slam title.

Is the new generation of Grand Slam champions are coming? Is this the beginning of the end of reign of the so-called Big Four? How 2014 Australian Open Champion Stanislas Wawrinka inspire other players to believe that they can be a Grand Slam champion one day? Whatever the answer to this questions, it is exciting to see that new name will be engraved in the champion's trophy.

It is very rare but it is bound to happen. These players trained hard and grind year-in, year-out for their dream to come true. And now they one step closer, one thing is for sure, the Flushing Meadows will crown the new 2014 US Open Men's Singles Champion. Who will it be? The player who is smaller but faster or the player who possesses big serve and big groundstrokes?

Both men improved their game to new heights. But one men improved a lot and a better player than the other. This will be a tough one to call. But Nishikori gained much confidence than Cilic and it will carry him through as the match goes on. Nishikori will be the new champion in four tough sets.

Champion: Kei Nishikori
