And here they are. The current and the former world No.1 players booked a spot to 2014 US Open finale and will contest for the title and the biggest paycheck US Open can give. No.10 seed Caroline Wozniacki will take on defending champion and No.1 seed Serena Williams. Wozniacki will try to breakthrough as a Grand Slam champion while Williams will try to add another Grand Slam trophy to her 17 collections and make it 18.

The semifinal battle between Williams and Ekaterina Makarova found to be a formality sake as she dispatched the Russian in a very convincing manner 6-1|6-3. Therefore, Makarova hope of a singles final will be halted for a year but she can continue it with fellow Russian Elena Vesnina for double championship battle. Williams has never been quite test in this tournament so far. Can Wozniacki give Williams a run for her money?

Former world No.1 Wozniacki found herself again in a Grand Slam final after unseeded Peng Shuai retired due to heat illness. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, Wozniacki is up a break and a point. But Peng decided to discontinue the match 7-6(7-1)|4-3(AD-40). It is an unusual ending of a contest for a player who attempted 37 tries to reach a semifinal stage. Though, she is giving Wozniacki a hard time, who will decide a match if not for an unwanted incident.

The spoilers are out. And we're down to somewhat expected to battle it out for a US Open title. Given such matchups, I can say that Williams has a huge advantage over Wozniacki. But Wozniacki's revival of her game, can she turn down Williams by being a wallboard in the entire match? Given Williams' athleticism, it will only give Wozniacki a headache. But what can Wozniacki do to follow-up her win over Williams in their quarterfinal match in 2012 Miami Open?

Their last two matches went distance 2014 Rogers Cup and 2014 Cincinnati Open. Each time Wozniacki taken off a set, but both times Williams won the match. Williams is currently leading Wozniacki 8-1 in head-to-head record (with 6-1 on hard courts in Williams' favor). Is Wozniacki's win over Williams a fluke?

This is Grand Slam championship. And only three players had beaten Williams in a battle for title match, namely, her older sister Venus Williams (two times), Maria Sharapova, and the last one was Samantha Stosur. Two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka almost belong to the list, but failed to do so. Can Wozniacki become the fourth?

This is Wozniacki second trip to US Open final. Her first was halted by four-time Grand Slam Champion and now retired Kim Clijsters. It will take Wozniacki much more effort to win over Williams. As Williams, gets free points on her serve. This is indeed a huge mission for Wozniacki, if she really wants to cement her name as a Grand Slam Champion and not a No.1 player never to win a Grand Slam title.

Champion: Serena Williams
